John Woodward serves as a Leadership and Organizational Culture Expert for Sutherland Partnership, having served over 26 years as a U.S. Army Armor officer. Through a mix of education, training and experience during his military career, John focused on the assessment and development of individual subordinates and teams allowing them to take the initiative and be successful. He led, trained and commanded multiple organizations, up to brigade-level. John understands how to develop exceptional teams, communicate clear guidance and vision, and lead from the front, in the most ambiguous environments.

During his career, John led in multiple combat deployments and overseas assignments including Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Jordan and Kuwait. He successfully commanded an Armored Reconnaissance Squadron during combat operations against Taliban forces in Afghanistan and as an Armored Brigade Combat Team Commander throughout the Middle East contributing to the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

John’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
